A Coupla Things

So, @steelopus tagged me a week or two ago with this "7 Things" meme and I haven't done it yet. But I've been thinking about it, like, a lot. That still doesn't count, does it? Okay, here goes nothin'....

Thing 1: If it requires sitting down and writing something it will take me for fucking ever to get it done (if I ever get it done at all.) Seriously. I almost failed out of college my first semester because of this. I went to one of those kind of artsy fartsy schools that gives "Open book, open note, open mind" exams and that was just too much openness for me. Too many options. Too many directions to take off in. Then second semester a helpful classmate, an advisor, and a handful of determined doctors helped me figure out that I'm really ADD. Literally. I even have a legit diagnosis that says so. I mean, they give me meds and everything. And the meds help the sitting down part. But they don't do anything to solve the the fact that, although I do okay with middles, I have big problems with beginnings and endings. "Thing One" has turned into the perfect example. Two weeks coming and suddenly it is a paragraph. I'll stop rambling now.

Thing 2: The feeling of wet clothes on my back skeeves me out. When I was a kid my mom would have to blow dry my hair before I would agree to put on any clothes because if my hair got my pajamas wet I would freak out and have to change. These days, I still don't put on a shirt until after I do my hair.

Thing 3: I have been a maniac for dogs my entire life. I'm pretty sure my first words were "Mom, can I have a dog?" And beagles have always been my fave. I have a stuffed beagle named "Tika" (named after the howling hound belonging to some friends of my parents) that I got when I was 3. I carried her around everywhere I went so her middle has no stuffing from being slung over my arm. When I was six and we moved to a new house, the old lady that lived behind us had a beagle that I used to talk to through the fence. His name was Reefer and he was my buddy. Explains a lot.

Thing 4: I obsessively twist my hair. Always have -- well, since I had hair (which my parents swear didn't happen until I was almost 3.) I do it when I'm nervous, I do it when I'm tired, I do it when I'm thinking, I do it when I'm bored. It makes for lots of split ends. But over the years I've learned to rotate locks so that the damage doesn't happen all in the same spot. I used to twist with the left hand and suck the thumb of my right hand. But I quit sucking my thumb the summer before seventh grade. Now I alternate hands depending on how I'm sitting and only double twist when I'm really stressed out.

Thing 5: I'm only 5'2". This probably seems like something most people would know about me "IRL" but that isn't so. I wear high heels or big boots almost every day. I walk big and I talk big. In other words, I walk with a considerable amount of confidence and I have a voice that projects due to some training in music and theater. I also have excellent posture. So people just don't notice that I'm shorter than average. When someone does say to me "Wow, I never realized how short you are!" it is usually someone I've known for a number of years.

Thing 6: Pickles make the bridge of my nose sweat. This doesn't mean I won't eat them. It also happens with other things that contain lots of vinegar like salad dressing and ketchup. Fresh pineapple will do it too. That can also give me hives. My mother always thought this made me the weirdest person on the planet. But then we figured out that my aunt (her sister) has the same issue. Not so weird now, huh? Hm.

Thing 7: I have weird depth perception. I will no longer say that I have poor depth perception since I'm really good at Tetris and I can parallel park like a motherfucker. I think it is more of a color issue. I can't draw in perspective and it takes some concentration for me to recognize some 2 dimensional images that are supposed to look 3 dimensional. So I have a hard time with video games where you're supposed to be walking or driving. Can't say it has really made my life any less full, really.

So that's it. Do you feel enriched?
